Mold/Mildew

Finding natual, green ways to remove mold and mildew can be tricky. Most people turn to bleach, which is a highly toxic product. Let's take a look at earth friendly alternatives.

Bathroom tile grout: First use our Stain Eraser to remove the mold in the tile grout. Then use CleanEz to kill the mold. Alternately you can use 20 to 35% hydrogen peroxide found at some health food stores. Spray on and leave the CleanEz or peroxide alone so it can kill the mold.

Musty smelling clothes can be hung in the sun to air out. If the clothes are colorfast fill the washer with cool water, add 2 to 3 cups of a fresh bottle of peroxide and borax. Fill the tub and let the clothes soak 30 minutes. Finish laundering and air-dry in the sun. Heat will set the smell of mold so air dry to make certain the mold has been completely killed.

Treating a home for mold can be dangerous. Breathing what could be toxic mold can cause serious life threatening problems. If your home has flooded, or has mold building on outside walls -not the interior walls- call your insurance agent and have your home checked for toxic mold. Then call a professional janitorial service who specializes in mold remediation.

Wood: if possible place the piece of furniture in the sun for several days bringing the furniture inside at night. It is best to sand and refinish the furniture to remove the mold.

Patio furniture: Our CleanEz has been used very successfully by boat detailers to remove dirt, grime and mold from the seats of boats. Use a stronger solution 10 parts water to one part CleanEz and clean your furniture with a sponge or gentle brush.

Decks, siding and roofs: Rent a power washer and power wash these surfaces first. Then spray the deck with a 50/50 solution of 20 to 35% hydrogen peroxide found in most health food stores and water to help prevent future mold buildup. For decks rinse well to remove the peroxide. The deck will need to be stained when you finish.
